At His Table

“Then she came and worshiped Him, saying, ‘Lord, help me!’ But He answered and said, ‘It is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs.’ And she said, ‘Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.’” (Matthew 15:25-27, NKJV)

As a sinner saved by God’s grace I can say with confidence that what falls from His table is good enough for me for two reasons: 1) the woman referenced above would have been gladly satisfied by the crumbs of our Lord; 2) so much better are God’s leftovers as compared to the sinful feast of this world.

“For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness.” (Psalm 84:10, NKJV)

What’s worthy of note is that our consuming crumbs, well, it isn’t good enough for God. He wants us seated at His table, not on the floor. He has gone to the greatest of lengths to make sure all can attend His banquet.

All are invited to sit at His table and feast with Him as His heirs, as His children, as His saints and as His messengers. There is no discrimination based on race, gender, background, wealth or lineage. God’s joy, peace, love, grace and mercy are made available to all who call upon the name of Jesus and believe.

How grateful we can all be that He has made this possible and that all we must do is respond to the calling of His voice to our ears, to our lives and to our hearts.

How should we respond?
